Two adjoining homes, two porch enclosures, one build. D2 Build enclosed neighbouring front porches on a Danforth semi at the same time: shared framing, shared crew mobilization, and separate finish packages so each homeowner got the interior and exterior they wanted.
The neighbours came to us with the same idea at the same time: close in the open front porches and get a year-round entry out of space that was only usable four months a year.
Building both at once made sense structurally and financially. One permit process, one set of scaffolding and crew mobilization, one material order across two units. The homeowners split the fixed costs that a single enclosure would have carried alone.
The bigger design decision was the brick. The original porches were carried on heavy masonry pillars that ate into an already narrow footprint. We reduced them to structural columns, recovering usable width on both sides without touching the load path. From there each homeowner made their own calls for siding profile, colour, window configuration, and interior millwork, so the two enclosures read as a pair from the street without being copies of each other.
Building side-by-side porch enclosures at the same time gave both Danforth homeowners a shorter timeline, shared costs on permits and mobilization, and a front entry that still looks like their own.
